Events at the Marlipins

Friends of Marlipins Museum can enjoy events throughout the year. As well as being social occasions, the events are an opportunity to catch up on the latest news and future plans.

May 16th  at 6.30pm: Ancient Harbours of the River Adur

An illustrated talk by Paul Baker, Hamish Freeman, Prof. Jeff Leigh and Sue Walker revealing where ships of old sailed up the Adur. The team's research began as an attempt to identify  the site of Old Shoreham, already a port when the Normans arrived. They found there were other ports on the Adur used by maritime traffic at Steyning, Bramber and at other places such as Botolphs. The talk will cover how the coastline changed and where these river ports might actually have been sited.

NOTE:  All talks take place in the Museum's gallery upstairs, accessed by the SIDE entrance in Middle Street.
